Tune Up for Today's Cars
Is a tune-up what it used to be?
June 2011
Electronics have altered the way cars are made these days, so vehicles that have been manufactured within the last two decades don’t have ignition points or carburetors. Back in the day, a tune-up mainly consisted of some basic adjustments to help the engine, and the replacement of important ignition system parts such as spark plugs and ignition points. This change has reduced the need for adjustments and replacements in many of the ignition and fuel system parts.
As a result, a tune-up for today's cars is a very different process. New systems and areas need to be inspected in today's modern vehicles such as:
Emissions
Ignition
Engine mechanical
Fuel
Fluids
Filters
Belts
Hoses
Powertrain control
Battery, charging and starting
It is always a good idea to become familiar with all aspects of your car to ensure good fuel economy and performance. Take the time to read the owner's manual to learn more about your vehicle and to be aware of your car's unique maintenance schedule. And above all, be sure to bring your car to a trusted repair shop in Lawrence that hires ASE certified technicians.
